Chesleigh Winfree is the Director of Laboratory Operations at BioPet Laboratories leading a team of laboratory professionals while managing the daily operations of the core lab. She principals scientific research and development of all genetic tests at BioPet including co-inventor of the patent pending PooPrints DNA testing. Setting the pace to ensure the team is continuously striving for accuracy through strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, she confirms that testing at BioPet Labs is optimized, unbiased, and accurate for our clients. Before joining BioPet Labs in 2008, her experience in animal health began at the University Of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in companion animal services, orthopedic drug research, and continued at BioPet Labs providing veterinary diagnostic testing before a strict focus in animal genetics. Chesleigh received a Bachelor’s of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and earned a Master’s degree in Forensic DNA and Serology from the University of Florida. As the Technical Leader, she designed and staffed BioPet Lab’s new testing facility while validating procedures and protocols for accreditation under the international standards ISO IEC: 17025:2017. She is responsible for establishing and maintaining laboratory policies and overseeing validation studies. She is an active member in the International Society for Animal Genetics leading the lab’s participation in international collaborative comparison test studies as well as a member of the International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association. Chesleigh enjoys continual learning in genetics and forensic sciences. She also prioritizes traveling and exploring the outdoors via camping, hiking, or local farmer’s markets with her husband, two captivating girls, and rescue pup.
